After Independence, Delhi Customs made a modest beginning of export and import cargo clearance in a few roomed customs house in talkatora military barracks ( the site where now stands the modern Parliament Secretariate building, next to All India Radio. The customs house shifted to the present central revenue building in indraprastha estate in 1956 when it became operational which is now finally located in its own premises i.e. New Custom House near I.G.I Airport.
